(Even If You Swore You Never Would)

I get it.

You’ve probably imagined that aisle moment your whole life. The music starts. The doors open. Everyone stands. Your partner sees you for the first time and completely melts.

And listen… that moment? It’s still magical.

But can I let you in on a little secret?

Some of the most emotional, calm, intimate moments I’ve ever photographed have happened during a first look.

And couples who were unsure at first? They almost always tell me afterwards,

“Wow. I’m so glad we did that.”

Let me tell you why.

It Calms the Nerves (In the Best Way)

Wedding mornings are exciting. Emotional. Slightly chaotic. There’s hairspray in the air and someone is always looking for a missing shoe.

But the second you see each other? Everything slows down.

Your shoulders drop. You breathe. You remember, “Oh right. It’s just us.”

Instead of holding all those emotions in until the ceremony, you get to release them privately — together.

And it changes the energy of the entire day.

It’s Intimate in a Way the Aisle Can’t Be

Walking down the aisle is beautiful. But it’s also… public.

There are guests. Cameras. Movement. Expectations.

A first look gives you space to actually talk.

To whisper,

“You look unreal.”

“To say, I can’t believe this is happening.”

“To fix a stray tear before anyone else sees.”

It’s just the two of you.

And those moments? They feel real. Unfiltered. Completely yours.

You Get So Much More Photo Time (Without Feeling Rushed)

This is the practical side — but stay with me.

When you do a first look, we can do:

Some couple portraits

Bridal party photos

A portion (or all) of the family photos

before the ceremony even starts.

Which means after you say “I do”… you actually get to enjoy cocktail hour. Hug people. Eat a canapé. Breathe.

Instead of disappearing for an hours while everyone wonders where you went.

Future-you will be very thankful.

Golden Hour Becomes a Bonus,

Not a Panic

If your entire portrait session is scheduled after the ceremony, we’re racing against the light.

But with a first look? Golden hour becomes a sweet, relaxed bonus.

We can sneak away for 20 dreamy minutes while your guests are mingling — no pressure, no giant checklist.

Just the two of you, glowing.

You Still Get the Aisle Moment

“It ruin the aisle moment?”  This is the biggest myth.

It changes it — but it doesn’t take it away.

The aisle moment becomes softer. Deeper. Sometimes even more emotional because you’ve already connected once that day.

And you’re not seeing each other for the first time as strangers in a crowd — you’re walking toward your person.

That hits differently.

But Here’s the Real Reason…

The biggest reason I love first looks?

It gives you time.

Time to feel.

Time to breathe.

Time to actually be together on a day that moves ridiculously fast.

Your wedding is not a performance. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime day with the person you love most.

If carving out a quiet moment makes it more meaningful for you, that’s reason enough.

And if you decide not to do one? That’s okay too. I’ll be ready for the aisle moment with tissues in my pocket either way.

And just between us?

We did a first look at our own wedding… and it was hands down the best part of my day. That quiet moment, just the two of us, before everything officially began — it grounded me. It reminded me what the day was actually about. In the middle of all the excitement and nerves, it felt calm, intimate and completely ours. I wouldn’t change it for anything.

all my love,

Anandi.
